Two shapeshifters approached me on all fours among the hillsides. They didn't speak, but they expressed themselves with their eyes, with leaps and a kind of pirouette—coordinated turns in the air. Their movements conveyed charm, but I also felt they were playing with me. They laughed, but the way hyenas laugh, which isn't really laughter, but rather the sound of something about to kill you.
